8th Gulf Coast Gravity Meeting, Gainesville FL

8th Gulf Coast Gravity Meeting
Gainesville FL
February 27 – 28, 2015

The “Florida Gravity’’ group at the University of Florida will host the 8th Gulf Coast Gravity Meeting in Gainesville FL on February 27 – 28, 2015. The GCGM is a regional meeting that brings together researchers in all areas of gravitational physics from the southeast region of the US. Even you are not from this region, you are still welcome! GCGM8 will consist of contributed talks in an informal atmosphere, with time for discussion. Students are especially encouraged to participate and give talks. The Blue Apple Award, sponsored by the APS Topical Group in Gravitation, will be awarded to the best student presentation.

Click on the conference URL for details about registration, submitting an abstract, accommodations, etc.

There is no registration fee; if you are a student, please indicate if you could use travel support. We have obtained financial support from various sources, and we will divide the available amount (which is quite limited!) between all students who request it, and if funds are still available we may be able to provide partial support also for postdocs.

7th Gulf Coast Gravity Meeting (registration deadline and logistics)

We decided to set a deadline of March 15 for registration. To register, please send an email with your name and affiliation (plus the title and abstract of your talk, if you wish to give a talk) to the following address:

gcgm7[AT]phy.olemiss.edu

We encourage you to plan your travel in advance, because we recently found out that a tennis tournament is taking place at the same time as GCGM7, so many hotels in town are already full. We booked blocks of rooms at discounted rates at Super 8 and University Inn. A limited (and slightly more costly) number of rooms is also available at Hampton Inn/Holiday Inn (they are run by the same company). Please make your reservations by the following dates:

* March 18 for Super 8
* April 1 for University Inn

In all cases, mention that you are attending the Gulf Coast Gravity Meeting to obtain the discounted rate. More details on travel and lodging are available at the conference website.

7th Gulf Coast Gravity Meeting (last announcement)

The Gravitation, Astrophysics, and Theoretical Physics group at the University of Mississippi will host the Gulf Coast Gravity Meeting on April 19-20, 2013.

The GCGM is a regional meeting that brings together researchers in all areas of gravitational physics from the south-east region of the US. The past two editions were at Louisiana State University (GCGM5, 2009) and Florida Atlantic University (GCGM6, 2011).

There is no registration fee. Students are warmly encouraged to participate. The Blue Apple Award, sponsored by the APS Topical Group in Gravitation, will be awarded to the best student presentation. To register, simply send your name and affiliation (as well as the title and abstract of your talk, if you wish to give a talk) to the following email address:

gcgm7 [at] phy [dot] olemiss [dot] edu

The same email address can be used for all inquiries related to the conference. We obtained financial support from the Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) Events Sponsorship Program. Please say explicitly in your email if you are a student or postdoc and if you would like to have travel support; we will divide the available amount between all students who request it, and if funds are still available we may be able to provide partial support also for postdocs.

Please book your hotel room as soon as possible. Most hotels are already partially or totally booked because of a tennis tournament, but we reserved two blocks of 30 rooms each at Super 8 and University Inn. More information is available at the conference website.

Seventh Gulf Coast Gravity Meeting, Oxford, Mississippi

The Gravitation, Astrophysics, and Theoretical Physics group at the University of Mississippi will host the Seventh Gulf Coast Gravity Meeting (GCGM7) on April 19-20, 2013. The GCGM is a regional meeting that brings together researchers in all areas of gravitational physics from the south-east region of the United States. The past two editions were at Louisiana State University (GCGM5, 2009) and Florida Atlantic University (GCGM6, 2011). This is the second GCGM organized by Ole Miss (the first one was GCGM4, 2008).

The workshop is meant to be informal and student presentations are welcome. There will be no registration fee. To register, simply send an email with your name and affiliation to the following address:

gcgm7 [at] phy [dot] olemiss [dot] edu

We don’t have travel funding at the moment, but we are looking for ways to support students and postdocs. Please say explicitly in your email if you are a student or postdoc and if you would like to have travel support in case it becomes available. The email address listed above can be used for all inquiries related to the conference.

More information is available on the conference webpage:

We are looking forward to seeing you in Oxford next Spring.

6th Gulf Coast Gravity Meeting (2nd announcement)

This is the 2nd announcement of the 6th Gulf Coast Gravity Meeting, which will be held May 15-16 at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. Researchers in all areas of gravitational physics, including numerical, experimental, classical and quantum gravity, as well as related astrophysics and cosmology will be in attendance. This is an informal regional meeting, and most participants will be from the Gulf Coast area of the United States, but all outside of this region who wish to attend are more than welcome. A prize of $200 (sponsored by the APS Topical Group on Gravity) will be awarded for the best talk given by a student at the meeting.  Additionally, funds are available to support student travel through an event grant of the Oak Ridge Associated Universities.

The registration simply consists in sending an email to jonathan.engle[AT]fau.edu with a title and short abstract if it is desired to give a talk, preferably by May 8th. Please indicate in the email whether the participant is a student. A current list of registered participants may be found at the website http://www.physics.fau.edu/events_news/GCGM6/GCGM6.php .
