The University of Stavanger invites applications for a position as Associate Professor in Mathematics/Statistics at the Faculty of Science and Technology in the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

The area of the position is: Applied mathematics or Statistics.

The position requires a PhD in mathematics/statistics, or equivalent.

The responsibilities comprise research, supervision, teaching, student assessment and administration related to the field above.

Qualifications within the areas of creativity, innovation and commercialization of research will be given emphasis in appointments to academic positions at the university.

Use of new teaching methods is a priority at the university. The appointee must be prepared to adopt new methods.

Associate Professor will the first year participate in “NyTi” which is the universities guidance and integration program for new teachers.

The appointee must be able to document extensive academic qualifications within central areas of the field and, through her/his work, to have demonstrated scientific competence within one or more areas of the discipline.

The appointee must be able to document basic competence in teaching or, alternatively, accept to enter a program that provide such competence within a period of two years.

The language of instruction is normally Norwegian. The appointee must have a good command of oral and written Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, or acquire such language competence within a period of two years. The appointees must also be prepared to teach classes in English.

The position is salaried according to the State Salary Code. For associate professors, l.pl 17.510, code 1011, ltr 61 – 65, of NOK 508 700 – 548 700 per annum. In special cases higher salaries may apply.

The position provides for automatic membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, which guarantees favorable retirement benefits. Members may also apply for housing loans at favorable interest rates.
