Location:  Garching, Germany

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in black hole astrophysics at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics starting summer or fall 2015. The successful applicant will work with Dr. Jason Dexter and other members of the Infrared/Submillimeter group on topics related to black hole accretion physics and strong gravity, including the Event Horizon Telescope and VLTI GRAVITY experiments. Applicants with expertise in theory, computation, or observation are all welcome to apply.

The MPE and the neighboring MPA offer a vibrant science environment with expertise in a broad spectrum of research topics and access to world class facilities.

A PhD in astronomy, physics, or a related field is required by the date of employment. The initial appointment is for two years, with an extension for the third year depending on satisfactory performance and the availability of funding. The position comes with a generous travel budget and the opportunity to spend time at UC Berkeley as part of an international exchange program in astrophysics between the Max Planck Society and UCB.

Qualified applicants should send a cover letter, CV, publication list, and statement of research interests (3 pages or less) to irjobs@mpe.mpg.de, and arrange for 3 letters of reference to be sent to the same e-mail address.

Applications received by December 15, 2014 will receive full consideration. Later applications will be considered until the position is filled.

The Max-Planck Society is an equal opportunity employer and women and minorities are especially encouraged to apply.
