Deadline:  2018-12-15

Location:  Leuven, Belgium

The Institute for Theoretical Physics at KU Leuven invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the area of gravitational wave physics.

The position is for two, and possibly three, years and is an integral part of the Centre for Gravitational Waves at KU Leuven, an initiative of the Institute for Theoretical Physics and the Institute of Astronomy at KU Leuven. Both Institutes are members of the LISA Science Consortium. The Centre stimulates nationwide collaboration on Gravitational Wave developments by its connections to several external partner universities in Belgium. Research at the Centre is aimed at the interface of theory, cosmology, and astrophysics. Besides staff instrumentalists, the gravity groups include astrophysicists and theorists (T. Hertog. T. Van Riet, B. Vercnocke, N. Bobev, A. Van Proeyen), together with a large number of students and postdocs, and they participate in a vibrant and extensive network of collaborations worldwide.

Target areas of research on gravitational waves in Leuven in the next few years include the theory and modelling of gravitational wave patterns associated with the classical and quantum gravity dynamics of compact systems and in cosmology. These predictions will also be linked to existing and upcoming gravitational wave data.

Candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. The deadline for full consideration is December 15, 2018. The start date for the position is in principle Fall 2019 (Sep-Oct), details can be discussed.

In order to apply, interested candidates should email as a single pdf file a cover letter and their curriculum vitae, including a research statement and a publication list (preferably with a link to SPIRES), to Ms Anneleen Marcelis (anneleen.marcelis[AT]kuleuven.be), and ask three referees to send a letter of recommendation on your behalf, also to Ms Anneleen Marcelis.

Further information about these positions can be obtained from Prof. T. Hertog (thomas.hertog[AT]kuleuven.be) or Prof. B. Vercnocke (bert.vercnocke[AT]kuleuven.be).
