About us

About the role

We are looking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to work in the area of numerical holography within the General Relativity group, which is part of the Geometry and Analysis Research Group. A strong background in numerical general relativity and high performance computing is desirable but not essential. The research activity of the successful candidate will focus on the study of collisions of holes and black hole instabilities in general in anti-de Sitter spaces, with an emphasis on applications to holography in a broad sense. The group has strong links with the String Theory group at Queen Mary University of London and other research institutions in the area such as Imperial College London, King’s College London and the University of Cambridge.

Duties include developing and conducting individual and collaborative research objectives, proposals and projects. The role holder will be expected to conduct high quality research and code development with the supervision of senior members of the group as well as being able to work autonomously. The successful candidate must be able to communicate material of a technical nature and be able to build internal and external contacts.

Pay & Benefits

The post is a full time, fixed term appointment for 1 year, with an expected start date of 1 January 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. The salary will be GBP33,615 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension and excellent travel and computing resources.
