Location:  Santiago, Chile

A joint research initiative between five universities in Chile, Universidad Andres Bello (UNAB), Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (PUC), Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Valparaiso (PUCV), Universidad Adolfo Ibanez (UAI) and Universidad Federico Santa María (UTFSM), is recruiting two postdoctoral researchers in the areas of String Theory, Quantum Field Theory, Gravitation and Condensed Matter, under the grant PIA/ANID – Anillo de Investigacion en Ciencia y Tecnologia ACT210100 titled “Holography and its applications to High Energy Physics, Quantum Gravity and Condensed Matter Systems”.

The initiative seeks to deepen the understanding of gauge/gravity dualities and their implications in Quantum Gravity and Condensed Matter Physics. Candidates with proven research experience in celestial holography, Wilson loops, supergravity theories, black hole physics, holographic renormalization, entanglement entropy, AdS/CMT and related topics are encouraged to apply. Selected candidates are welcome to collaborate with all of the main researchers associated with the grant: Alberto Faraggi (UNAB), Hernan Gonzalez (UAI), Vladimir Juricic (UTFSM), Olivera Miskovic (PUCV), Rodrigo Olea (UNAB), Francisco Rojas (UAI) and Rodrigo Soto (PUC).

The minimal duration of the position is 12 months, starting in the period March 1 – August 1, 2022, with the possibility of extending it to a maximum of three years. The postdoctoral position will be based at Universidad Andres Bello in Santiago de Chile, although selected candidates are expected to interact with all team members and participate in activities at the other associated institutions, both in Santiago and Valparaiso, as well as any other events organized at other locations in the framework of the Anillo Grant. During their first year, selected candidates are strongly encouraged to apply to the FONDECYT Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in July–September 2022, which is a separate grant, independent from the Anillo.

The offered stipend is 1.924.000 Chilean pesos (2,300 USD approx.) per month (gross amount, includes full-time salary and health coverage). In addition, some operational expenses will be available depending on funding. Foreign researchers without residence in Chile will be financed with a one-way ticket to Santiago; an initial per diem may be awarded depending on approval from the funding agency.

Interested candidates must submit a research statement in any of the proposed areas, a summary of their Ph.D. thesis, proof of degree, a copy of passport (foreigners) or identity card (Chileans), a curriculum vitae including a publication list, an author identifier (arXiv, ORCID or INSPIRE), and two recommendation letters to Prof. Alberto Faraggi anilloholografia[AT], before January 31, 2022. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed remotely within the first week of February 2022. The results will be sent by email starting from the second week of February 2022.
