The group of Relativistic Theoretical Astrophysics in Frankfurt invites applications for one postdoctoral position to carry our research within “ExaHyPE”, a project funded by the European Horizon 2020 initiative to develop a novel simulation engine for hyperbolic PDE problems at exascale (http://www5.in.tum.de/forschung/exahype/).
Candidates should have a PhD in astrophysics, physics or applied mathematics and research experience with simulations in numerical relativity, relativistic hydrodynamics and MHD. Scientific-computing skills and HPC experience are essential, as well as a solid theoretical background in relativistic hydrodynamics and MHD. Candidates with knowledge and experience in modelling the dynamics of binary systems of neutron stars are particularly encouraged to apply.
The successful applicant will be part of an international research group recently set-up at the Institute for Theoretical Physics at Frankfurt am Main. Interests of the group span from the modelling of the physics of neutron stars and black holes, to fundamental issues in gravitational physics (http://astro.uni-frankfurt.de/relastro/). Frankfurt am Main is a lively and international city, and Europe’s financial center.
The application should comprise a CV, a publication list, and a research summary and proposal. Applicants should also arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to the address below. Applications will be have to be sent by 31.10.2015 for full consideration, but the search will remain open till the optimal candidate is found.
The position is for three years and expected to start on 01.04.2016, but earlier or later appointments can be negotiated.
Applications should be made electronically and sent to: Fr. Astrid Steidl: steidl[AT]th.physik.uni-frankfurt.de
