The Gravity Group at Tecnico (GRIT), part of the Center for Astrophysics and Gravitation (CENTRA) in Tecnico, Lisbon, invites applications for two post-doctoral research fellowships in Gravitational Physics.
The successful applicants will work with Dr. Richard Brito on the project “Opportunities in the gravitational sky: Searching for new fundamental fields with Black Holes and Gravitational Waves”, funded by the Fundacao para a Ciencia e Tecnologia (FCT) under the ERC-Portugal Program. The project’s main goal is to explore novel strategies to search for new fundamental fields, either motivated by dark matter models or by beyond GR theories, using gravitational-wave and black-hole observations. The fellows will be expected to contribute to the project’s research goals and activities, such as the training of students.
The initial appointment is for two years, possibly renewable up to the end-date of the project in July 2027, subject to funding renewal and satisfactory performance. The start date is flexible and can occur any time between February 2025 and July 2025 (the exact start date will be agreed upon with the successful candidates).
Candidates must hold a PhD degree in Physics or related areas obtained no more than 3 years before the application date. A strong background in black-hole and/or gravitational-wave physics is desirable. Candidates with experience in topics such as tests of GR and/or dark matter with gravitational-waves, black-hole perturbation theory, gravitational-wave modelling and gravitational-wave data analysis, are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applications must be formalized by sending the following documents: i) B1- Form available at https://ist-id.pt/concursos/bolsas/; ii) CV (including list of publications); iii) a research statement (max 2 page); iv) PhD degree certificate; v) two recommendation letters to be sent separately.
The application material should be sent by e-mail to richard.brito[AT]tecnico.ulisboa.pt [please use the subject: “Post-doctoral fellowship (BL246/2024_IST-ID)”] and must be submitted before 31st December 2024. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered. For more details on the fellowship and application process see the link attached to this advertisement.
The GRIT group is the largest group in the country working on gravitational physics, and has close ties to the Strong gravity group at the Niels Bohr Institute. The group is also part of the LISA Consortium and the Einstein Telescope Collaboration; the successful candidate will be encouraged to join these efforts. More information about the group can be found at https://centra.tecnico.ulisboa.pt/network/grit/.
Informal inquiries can be made by contacting Richard Brito at richard.brito[AT]tecnico.ulisboa.pt.
