Deadline:  2024-11-15

Location:  Gandhinagar, India

A one-year postdoctoral position with Prof. Arpan Bhattacharyya at the Physics Department of IIT Gandhinagar is available with a possibility of extension subject to performance and availability of funds. A successful candidate is expected to conduct research on one or more of the following topics: Application of effective field theory and techniques of scattering amplitude in the context of gravitational wave physics (e.g. PN/PM formalism, self-force, etc.) and other relevant areas in high-energy physics, effects of environments on GW physics, analysis of GW from different sources, black hole perturbation for theories beyond GR and preferably have some experience with numerical analysis (through any kind of software like Python, Mathematica or any software relevant for computing Feynman diagrams but not necessarily restricted to these.).

The candidate should hold a PhD degree in physics. Candidates who have submitted their thesis or are about to submit it may also apply. A strong record of publications in the field (but not necessarily restricted to) of quantum field theory/effective field theory/scattering amplitude/Black-hole/Gravitational physics is expected. Candidates working in the domain of particle physics but interested in working in formal aspects of GW physics as well as other areas in high energy physics (e.g. soft gravitational/celestial amplitudes) focusing on effective field theory and higher-loop scattering amplitude are also encouraged to apply.

Application has to be submitted via the following google form, link of which can be found inside the advertisement link.

Additionally, two letters of recommendation are required. They should be directly sent to
the email id: abhattacharyya[AT]iitgn.ac.in with the subject line Reco-GW_Gravity_Name of the Applicant. In case of any queries, kindly contact Prof. Arpan Bhattacharyya (email: abhattacharyya[AT]iitgn.ac.in).
