We invite expressions of interest for two postdoc positions at the Italian Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) in Rome, Italy. The postdoc positions will be funded under the European Research Council (ERC) Starting program GravitySirens, whose goal is to study cosmology and compact binaries’ astrophysics using gravitational-wave signals.
Potential candidates should have a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics, physics or engineering. We are particularly eager to receive expressions of interest from candidates with experience in (i) population inference with gravitational-wave signals (ii) population synthesis and astrophysics of compact binary coalescence. Previous experience with machine learning is also highly appreciated.
The two postdocs will join the new research group GravitySirens led by Dr. Simone Mastrogiovanni. The postdocs will have also the possibility to join the Virgo and Einstein Telescope (ET) groups at INFN Rome. INFN Rome is located inside Sapienza University, one of the largest Universities in Italy. The Virgo and ET groups in Rome have about 50 researchers including PhD students, postdocs and 10 faculty.
The two postdocs positions are expected to start before Apr 2025. Interested candidates should send (i) a brief motivation letter (ii) curriculum vitae and (iii) two contacts for reference letters to Simone Mastrogiovanni (simone.mastrogiovanni[AT]roma1.infn.it). Expressions of interest can be sent at the earliest convenience, but not later than Oct 31st.
