Deadline:  2026-01-31

Location:  Lulea, Sweden

The Division of Mathematical Sciences, at the Department of Engineering Sciences and Mathematics at Lulea University of Technology, is now looking for a postdoctoral scholar in geometric analysis or mathematical general relativity to contribute to our growing activities.

The scholarship holder will be based in the Division of Mathematical Sciences within the Department of Engineering Sciences and Mathematics at LTU. The project will be carried out in collaboration with Stephen McCormick and is funded by the Kempe Foundation (grant JCSMK25-0130). The tax-free stipend will be 360,000 SEK per year for two years (720,000 SEK total).

The purpose of this project is to conduct research in geometric analysis and mathematical general relativity. In particular, the project aims to better understand V-static asymptotically hyperbolic metrics and their relation to definitions of mass in general relativity. Specific research questions during the project may be adapted to the candidate’s expertise and interests.

For this project, a successful candidate should have a strong background in geometric analysis, mathematical general relativity, or a closely related area. We seek a motivated and enthusiastic candidate capable of working independently and collaborating effectively within a team. Very good skills in both spoken and written English are essential.

In order to be eligible for the position you must have a PhD or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD in mathematics (or closely related field). A doctoral degree awarded no more than five years before the application deadline provides a useful qualification.

Starting date: Available immediately, but starting date is negotiable.

Full application should include:

– A brief cover letter (1 page) outlining your motivation for the position and suitability for the project.
– A curriculum vitae (CV) including a full list of publications and contact information of two people willing to act as references.
– A brief research statement (1-4 pages) outlining your research interests, including previous work and independent research plans.

Applications must be made directly to the university via the external link provided.

For further information, applicants are welcome to contact Stephen McCormick, Senior Lecturer, (+46)920-49 1680, stephen.mccormick[AT]ltu.se (email preferred).
