The Department of Physics at the University of Guelph and Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics invite applications for two joint positions at the Assistant Professor level in theoretical physics. These are tenure-track faculty positions at Guelph, combined with an Associate Membership at Perimeter Institute. We are looking for candidates who will integrate our efforts and reinforce our strengths in theoretical physics. Areas of common interest to the Department and Perimeter Institute include astrophysics, cosmology, high energy physics, gravitational physics and mathematical physics. The successful candidates will be expected to spend time at both institutions, and will benefit from a reduction in teaching load.
The Department of Physics counts 15 faculty members and offers strong undergraduate and graduate programs to the Ph.D. level. Research areas include astrophysics and gravitation, biophysics and medical physics, condensed matter physics and material nanoscience, physics education, planetary surface exploration, and subatomic physics. More information is available at www.physics.uoguelph.ca. Perimeter Institute is a leading global centre for fundamental research in theoretical physics. The Institute offers an exceptional research environment and is currently staffed with 23 faculty and 14 associate faculty members. It currently has strong research efforts in condensed matter physics, cosmology, mathematical physics, quantum fields and strings, quantum foundations, quantum gravity, quantum information and particle physics. More information about Perimeter Institute is available at www.perimeterinstitute.ca.
The successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in theoretical physics or a closely related field, postdoctoral experience, and will have demonstrated exceptional strength in independent research. The candidates will also have a proven ability or demonstrated potential for teaching.
To apply, please submit electronic (PDF) versions of a curriculum vitae, statement of research interests, statement of teaching philosophy, list of publications and at least three letters of recommendations ONLINE
Further information about the search can be obtained from Leonid Brown, Chair, Department of Physics, University of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario, Canada N1G 2W1. Consideration of applications will begin on January 15, 2015 however, applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
