The Department of Astronomy at the University of Florida invites applications for a full-time, nine-month tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2016. We invite applications in all areas from outstanding candidates who specialize in data-intensive or computationally intensive research. We particularly encourage applicants who can utilize resources available at the University of Florida through the Informatics Institute and High Performance Computing Center. In addition, candidates should have a strong established research program that complements ongoing research in the department, a compelling plan for future research, and the ability to supervise both graduate and undergraduate research projects. A Ph.D. or its equivalent degree in Astronomy, Astrophysics, or a closely related field is required. This search and a parallel search in the Department of Physics are the beginning of a concerted effort by the University of Florida to expand in the area of astronomy and astrophysics. Between the two departments, faculty bring complementary skills and perspectives to many problems of common interest. This and future searches are expected to deepen and expand the collaboration between the two departments in the area of astrophysics.

Applications must be submitted online at the external link above and reference job # 495239. Further information about the position and a link to the department website can also be found from that link. Applications must include: (1) a complete curriculum vitae, (2) a list of publications, (3) a letter summarizing the applicant’s qualifications, past research and future research plans, and a statement of teaching experience and interest. Three reference letters should be submitted via email to jmrose[AT]ufl.edu with the subject heading Faculty Search. For full consideration, applications should be submitted by January 15, 2016, when the committee will begin reviewing applications. Applications received after this date may be considered at the discretion of the committee until the position is filled.
The University of Florida is an Equal Opportunity Institution dedicated to building a broadly diverse and inclusive faculty and staff.

Questions may be addressed to the search chair, Professor Elizabeth Lada (see Contact above).
