The PPGCosmo program anticipates having one 4-year senior postdoctoral position for non-Brazilian citizens (“professor visitante estrangeiro”) starting in February-June 2019. PPGCosmo is a Brazilian PhD program consisting of five institutions from Brazil and four institutions from outside Brazil. The research topics range from theoretical to observational aspects of Astrophysics, Cosmology and Gravitation, including participation in collaborations such as DES, Euclid, J-PAS, Virgo and LIGO. We plan to fill this position with a researcher with a strong record in gravitational wave physics or a closely related field. Only candidates with 10 or more peer-reviewed publications will be considered. The salary is at the associate professor level (“associado IV”), roughly Brazilian R$13,000 per month after taxes, which is approximately three times the standard Brazilian postdoctoral fellowship. The successful candidate will have the possibility to supervise PhD students and will have to teach graduate courses (two courses per semester).
The program is based at the Federal University of Espirito Santo (UFES), in Vitoria, the capital of Espírito Santo State – it is a well-connected and pleasant human-sized city. Faculty members usually live at walking distance from both the University Campus and the seaside, in one of the most pleasant neighborhoods of Vitoria. Please note that living costs in Vitoria are moderate: near the campus a meal costs about R$20-30 and renting a small apartment about R$1,500-2,000.
