Postdoctoral researcher in theoretical high-energy multimessenger astrophysics, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
The Anton Pannekoek Institute for Astronomy at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) invites applications for a 2-year postdoctoral researcher position in theoretical high-energy multimessenger astrophysics. The position will be embedded in the research group of Dr Philipp Moesta, which is part of the GRAPPA center for astroparticle physics. Dr Mösta will be joining GRAPPA in summer 2019. The successful applicant will also work in close collaboration with the groups of Dr Samaya Nissanke (multimessenger gravitational-wave astrophysics) and Dr Selma de Mink (stellar evolution).
The University of Amsterdam has a strong profile in the natural sciences, and has expanded upon that role with the founding of the GRAPPA center for astroparticle physics in 2012. There are also close ties with the Nikhef Institute, which is involved in LHC, KM3NeT and gravitational wave instrumentation and analysis.
The research will focus on numerical simulations of compact object mergers and core-collapse supernovae with a particular focus on making connections to multi-messenger observations and stellar evolution.
You should have a PhD in astronomy and/or physics and a proven track record in theoretical high-energy astrophysics, numerical relativity, or multi-messenger astrophysics. Experience with large-scale simulations is welcome, but not required.
The appointment is intended for an initial period of 2 years, with renewal for a 3rd year contingent upon funding and satisfactory progress. The start of the appointment will be on 1 October 2019, with some flexibility.
The salary will be in accordance with the university regulations for academic personnel, and will range from EUR 2,640 to EUR 4,166 (salary scale 10) gross per month based on 38 hours per week. This is excl. 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% end of year bonus. The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities is applicable and includes full social benefits.
We are an equal opportunity employer and greatly value the diverse nature of our institute. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability status.
