SUNY Polytechnic Institute is seeking to hire a tenure-track assistant (or higher) professor of physics. We will consider applicants of any core branch of theoretical physics. We are especially interested in complementing our current research profile with a gravitational physicist or astrophysicist.
SUNY Poly is a small but ambitious institute of higher education focused on engineering programs new and old. The strategy of the physics group is to strengthen SUNY Poly’s current applied research profile by complementing it with basic physics research. In addition, this hire will allow us to launch the BS in Physics and, because SUNY Polytechnic already offers doctoral degrees in the applied sciences, building a graduate degree in physics is a distinct possibility for the future. For these reasons, we are looking for junior theoretical physicists with a strong research portfolio and ready for the independence to pursue her or his own research agenda as she or he sees fit.
She or He should also be excited about teaching physics to undergraduate students at all levels of the traditional undergraduate physics curriculum (see our catalogue here). And last, but not least, she or he should be filled with the passion for physics, professional pride, and determination necessary to help us make Physics at SUNY Poly as big as we can make it!
