Dear Colleagues,
We are celebrating the life and scientific legacy of Charles W. Misner, with a memorial symposium on Saturday, November 11 (9am-5pm EST, 14:00-22:00 UTC). This in-person event will be held at the University of Maryland and streamed online via Zoom. It will feature talks by Steven Carlip, Ted Jacobson, Saul Teukolsky and Kip Thorne reflecting on Charlie’s many scientific contributions and the later research they inspired, along with remarks and reminiscences by former students and colleagues. More information can be found at umdphysics.umd.edu/events/misnersymposium.html. The event is free (and will include coffee breaks and lunch) but registration is required by following a link on that page. If you would like to participate via Zoom, please register using the same link (skipping the question about food preferences) and on one of the pages you will see a question about online versus in-person participation. The Zoom link will be emailed later to people who have registered.

In addition, Kip Thorne will be giving a public lecture on Friday, November 10 at 4:15pm EST at the University of Maryland in Toll 1412. Details about the public lecture can be found at https://science.umd.edu/events/thorne.html. (No registration is required for this.)

We hope to see you at one or both events!
Ted Jacobson, Peter Shawhan, Alessandra Buonanno
