Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the winter school “Modern Applications of Field Theory” taking place 9-13 November 2026 at the Institut d’Etudes Scientifiques de Cargese (IESC) in Corsica, France.

Quantum field theory (QFT) is undergoing a remarkable renaissance, with transformative developments spanning high-energy physics, condensed matter, and quantum many-body theory. This school offers a coherent, pedagogically structured introduction to QFT as a unified framework connecting physics across widely separated energy scales.
The program is built around four interlinked modules, each delivered by leading experts and complemented by research seminars:

Renormalization Group and Effective Field Theory – low-energy actions, fixed points, symmetry principles

Nonperturbative Methods and Emergent Phenomena – confinement, instantons, quantum many-body dynamics, cosmology

Conformal Field Theory – scale and conformal invariance, applications to quantum field theory and statistical mechanics

Holography and AdS/CFT – gravitational duals of strongly coupled theories, black hole physics and low-energy applications

Lecturers: Johanna Erdmenger, Hugh Osborn, Ana-Maria Raclariu and Manfred Salmhofer. Speakers include Dario Benedetti, Andrea Cappelli, Lorenzo Di Pietro, Aaron Held, Benjamin Knorr, Giovanna Morigi, Giuseppe Mussardo (*) and Andreas Stergiou (*)
[(*) to be confirmed]. A selected number of contributed talks among applicants is foreseen.

The school is aimed at graduate students and early-career researchers in QFT and related fields of research. The registration fee of 430 EUR covers accommodation, breakfast, and breaks. A limited number of fee waiver is available upon request.

Full details, timetable, and registration are available here:

Deadline of the application is 31 August, and acceptance will be communicated by 10 September.

We look forward to seeing you in Cargese.
